DON COLES was born in Woodstock, ON, and lives in Toronto. He has published a number of poetry collections in Canada, one (translated into German by Margitt Lehbert) in Germany, one in the U.K. Forests of the Medieval World won the Governor General’s Award for Poetry in 1993, Kurgan won the Trillium Book Prize in 2000 (the last year in which there was only one such award), and For the Living and the Dead (a translation of the poetry of the Swedish poet Tomas Tranströmer) won the John Glassco Prize for best literary translation in 1996.
